How to Have Fun in Virginia Beach on a Budget

Vacations on a budget are the best way to make having fun affordable.  Although not all vacations are built equally, you can find fun on any budget.  These are the top ways to make sure you can afford a great time while in Virginia Beach by saving some money along the way.

Go in the Off Season!

Going in the off-season doesn’t mean you have to be in Virginia Beach in the winter, but it does mean you should skip most of the summer.  Instead, arrive in early to mid fall, when it’s still hot out, but the kids are back in school.

If you go in the off-season, you’ll find far more businesses offering discounts, and cheaper accommodations are easier to locate.  This will also allow you to find cheaper flights and more attractions available without long lines.

Feed Yourself for Two Meals a Day

There are countless houses for rent in Virginia Beach that allow you to use a kitchen while you’re in town!  We’d all love to eat out for every meal we’re in a new city, but this isn’t financially feasible for most people.  Instead, take the time to get groceries and cook for yourself for at least two-thirds of your meals.

You don’t have to cook full meals every time; even making sandwiches for some lunches or having simple cereal or muffins for breakfast will help you save money in the long run.

Enjoy the Local Freebies

Freebies are a big part of what makes any vacation affordable.  Virginia Beach has a lot of free activities to do, most of which are outside and can take a full day to enjoy!  Beyond the beaches themselves, you can also visit the awesome Cape Henry Lighthouse, explore the Virginia Legends Walk, and check out the False Cape State Park!

Watch Out for Overpriced Scams

There are countless scams that will open you up to financial issues.  These aren’t the classic kind that would steal your financial information, but instead tourist traps that are overpriced for anyone new to town.

These include boat rides that cost over $50 an hour per person or tours that require you to follow the lead in your own vehicle and tune in via radio.  Research everything you do ahead of time, and make sure the reviewers say the money spent was worth it.

Drive into Town Instead of Flying

The best way to save some money, especially if you’re traveling with a large family and you live less than three states away, is to drive instead of flying.  Driving will give you the chance to only pay for fuel, which could amount to around the same as a plane ticket.  Calculate how long your drive would be if you’d need to get a hotel and how much fuel would cost versus the price of flying.

Anyone Can Enjoy a Trip to Virginia Beach

A trip to Virginia Beach is one of the most exciting ways to enjoy your time off work.  If you’re ready to make the most out of a weekend, or a full week, consider these tips to ensure you can afford it!
